Question 1

How does ShiftTracker compare to other gig-driver apps?

Accepted Answer

ShiftTracker's main differentiator is odometer-based mileage logging at shift start and end — the IRS Publication 463–compliant format, the most audit-defensible mileage record format the IRS recognizes. Most competing apps (Everlance, MileIQ, Hurdlr, Stride, Gridwise) use background GPS auto-detection, which is more passive but drains battery on top of the GPS already running for DoorDash/Uber/Instacart routing — and produces GPS-trace logs rather than the odometer-based logs IRS Publication 463 explicitly asks for.

Question 2

Which gig-driver app has the best tax features?

Accepted Answer

All major gig-driver apps (ShiftTracker, Everlance, Hurdlr, Stride) produce Schedule C–ready expense and mileage summaries. The difference is mileage methodology and integrated earnings. ShiftTracker captures odometer-based mileage at shift start and end, integrates per-shift earnings, computes real hourly rate after expenses, and exports a Schedule C summary tuned for delivery/rideshare 1099 income. Hurdlr and Stride are broader self-employment tools; Everlance is mileage-focused; ShiftTracker is shift-focused.

Question 3

Is ShiftTracker free?

Accepted Answer

ShiftTracker offers a 7-day free trial of the full app — core shift tracking, odometer-based mileage, expense logging, CSV exports, multi-vehicle, advanced reports, and tax estimates. When the trial ends, it becomes a paid plan billed automatically ($7.99/mo or $59.99/yr) until you cancel. The trial is enough to test the full feature set before you decide.

Question 4

Why does ShiftTracker use odometer instead of GPS auto-tracking?

Accepted Answer

Three reasons. (1) Battery-friendly — gig apps already run background GPS for routing; stacking another always-on GPS drains the phone during long shifts. (2) IRS-native — IRS Publication 463 specifically asks for odometer readings as the canonical mileage log format. (3) Privacy-respecting — no continuous location tracking. The trade-off: a few seconds at shift start and end to enter odometer readings.

Question 5

Can I switch from another gig-driver app to ShiftTracker?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Before you leave another app, export your mileage and expense history and keep a copy for your tax records. Going forward, ShiftTracker captures odometer-based shifts. Avoid switching in the middle of a tax year if you can, so each year's log stays in one place.
